Dodson Suspended For One Race

Driver Chris Dodson was disqualified from the Friday night, May 12, 2006 Modified race at Southside Speedway and is to serve a one race suspension due to his actions. Dodson became angry with another driver during the race and after parking his car due to mechanical problems tossed a piece of sheet metal onto the track during a caution.

Track officials met and determined that Dodson should be disqualified and also serve an additional race suspension for the next feature event to be run at the speedway. The next feature is scheduled to be this Friday night’s 100 lap Late Model Sportsmen race. In the event the feature is not run this Friday, due to rain or any other unforeseen circumstances, his suspension will carry over to the next feature event.

Co-race director Chris Stefi stated “we felt that the sheet metal could have been run over and caused injury to another driver, official, pit crew member, or someone in the stands. We can not allow anyone to be throwing objects onto the track.” Co-race director Gary Fox added, “Dodson’s actions were detrimental to the sport of stock car racing at Southside Speedway.” Dodson was notified Tuesday of the penalties.
